There's nothing like it

Lecture at 8 this morning… on a Saturday. It’s a very different feel that Brisbane possesses on the weekends. It’s sleepy but still keeps its urban and rushed lifestyle intact. Mike Tarrant, the program head, gave a thought provoking lecture about tourism and how countries promote it. The overlying theme was sense of place, but I was particularly intrigued by the tourism ads.
Queen street was dotted with street performers including an aboriginal man and a mime covered in silver paint. Christine and I went to make copies for Sunday's museum scavenger hunt, much to the students' dismay. We then plopped down on a bench in King George’s square to people watch. Hooligans on skateboards that were told to run along home and people in very interesting outfits…
Playing away on the didgeridoo. The first, other than Uncle Des, aborigine that I've seen
My gelato craving carried over from last night so before we continued back to the lecture hall we stopped for some expensive but necessary sweets. Grandma tendancies reared their ugly head as I ordered rum rasin. Whatever people. It's good stuff.
Once back in the lecture hall I was designated an honorary seat outside the closed door so I could enter in data from the students' people-watching studies. The dead silence surrounded so all I could hear after over an hour of data entry was the sound of my brain slowly entering the realm of insanity. You can only type in so many numbers on one spreadsheet without wanting to throw the laptop against the wall. Just saying.
Bob and I left lectures early (hooray for being in the biology group!) and made a quick stop at Wolly's for pears. After meandering back up the giant hill and 83 steps to the hotel I did some more class clean-up work and headed off for a run! Instead of the "usual" botanic gardens I returned to Roma parkland where all intentions of getting some form of running in was completely lost. The place looks like rainbow vomit with flowers bursting out of every crevasse. If not flowers, then waterfalls. If not waterfalls, lush greenery. You just can't go wrong. So, running session turned to floral photo shoot. And then it rained. Whoops.
Snapped this one right before he flew away
Might I add this is in the middle of a city...
Leads out to the duck behavior pond
Perpetuating my flower-close-up obsession
Pictures don't do it justice
Little did I know there was about to be a LOT more water on that flower...
